This is short enough that you can read it cover to cover in your hotel room at an HCCA conference. I did that and passed the CHC exam on the first try. If you're reading this, you're probably trying to do the same thing and I recommend this book for that purpose.Understand that the brevity of the book is a feature, not a bug. The CHC is simply not the kind of test that is looking for rote memorization and I think a lot of people get tripped up by the fact that this simply isn't the sort of thing you can study for with a deck of flashcards. There really isn't that much raw material and the test is about actually applying that material to situations on the ground. As such, this book is not about being a compliance officer so much as it is about learning to THINK like one.
PS: Another tip, a lot of good information is buried in the glossary, and after you pass the book continues to be useful with its model forms.

This book is ridiculously overpriced for the content. You can get most of the content by researching the internet. I was sorely disappointed.
this book was long on dollars and short on content. this book is a little less than $1/ page. It gives an amazing amount of appendices to supplement its short content. provides a very fleeting overview of compliance even for a '101' book. If the price was less than half what is being charged then perhaps it would be an ok value. else, bypass this.
Good reference book if you are taking up the CHC exam but do not depend on this alone.
Book is very pricey and most of the information is something that you can find online.
I used this book in place of the 4th edition and it worked out fine!
Overall this is a good general resource; however I was somewhat disappointed in this book. It's recommended for study to obtain the SCCE Certified Compliance & Ethics Certificate; however, much of the book is dedicated to the Certified Healthcare Compliance certificate. Would be helpful if that material could be kept separate so more easily focus on what's relevant for the general certificate exam.
This book was the only source I used to study for the CHC examination. It covers Federal healthcare laws in one easy to read source that gets to the point. I read it three times, took the exam, and passed the first time.
In all likelihood, an updated version will likely be in print soon, given the recent HIPAA implementation dates and changes. Nevertheless, the book is an easy read and provides foundational information for someone new to the area of healthcare compliance.
